This drew extensively on themes emerging directly out of the lectures on moral philosophy, especially his most recent series 'Goodness, Rightness, Utility', written at the turn of the year 1939-40; it incorporates the analysis to be found in manuscripts such as 'What Civilization Means' (1939-40) and draws on the account of mind and consciousness developed in The Principles of Art.
